I've posted my review of the Canon PowerShot SD790 IS Digital ELPH (also known as the IXUS 90 IS), an ultra-compact 10 Megapixel camera. Those of you shopping for any model in the ELPH/IXUS series may find the "family tree" at the top of the review to be useful.

Panasonic introduced four new Lumix cameras today, and the most interesting one (to me, at least) is the DMC-LX3. Those of you who remember the "good old days" of cameras with fast lenses will be pleased to see these specs:

Next up is the Lumix DMC-FZ28 super zoom camera. This is a relatively minor upgrade to the DMC-FZ18 -- nothing groundbreaking here. The specs follow:

The last two new Panasonics are ultra-compact models in their FX series. The DMC-FX37 and DMC-FX150 are replacements for the FX35 and FX100, respectively. Here are their specs:

Samsung released four new cameras today, featuring things such as a 14.7 Megapixel CCD and dual "fuel gauges" showing battery life and memory card capacity. I don't have as many specs as I'd like, but if I get them, I'll update these news items. Let's start with the top end model, the TL34HD:

Next, we have the TL9, which has a totally wacky "fuel gauge" on the top of it, displaying both memory card and battery capacity. Check it out:

The last Samsung cameras I want to mention are two entry level models:

After several weeks of time off, I'm finally getting back into the groove of writing reviews. Today I've got a review of the Olympus Stylus 1030SW, an ultra-compact camera that's "everything-proof". But does it take good pictures? Find out in my review!

Canon has announced the US pricing for the EOS Rebel XS digital SLR and 430EX II external flash. The camera will ship with an image stabilized 18 - 55 mm lens in August for $699, while the flash will retail for $329. You can read more about both of these in our original news item from a few weeks ago.

Nikon today rolled out their new full-frame D700 digital SLR. The best way to describe the D700 is that it's a D3 in a smaller, lighter package. It has the same FX-format sensor, stunning image quality, super-fast performance, and build quality as Nikon's flagship model, all in a body just a bit larger than the D300. Here's the full list of details:

I've finally posted my review of the Canon EOS Rebel XSI / EOS-450D. This review was supposed to be posted on Monday night, but I ran into some technical difficulties that kept me from completing it while I was on the road. Thanks for your patience!

Canon took the wraps off their new Rebel XS digital SLR today. The XS, which replaces the Rebel XTi, is a stripped-down version of the Rebel XSi and will be Canon's new entry-level D-SLR. The camera will officially be announced in the U.S. next month, so I'll have pricing and availability at that time. For now, here are the specs:

I'm off to Alaska tomorrow, but before I go, here are the test shots for the Canon EOS Rebel XSi that I promised. I'll post the full review of the camera after my trip.

I've finally posted the photo gallery for the Canon EOS Rebel XSi. While the full review won't be posted until I return from Alaska, I'll try to have all the standard test shots for you tomorrow.

Pentax has released a new lens designed specifically for their digital SLRs. The new F4 AL, 17 - 70 mm SDM lens features two "hybrid aspherical" lens elements, a "supersonic" lens motor, and a dust/water resistant coating. Do note that the SDM lens motor is only supported on the K10D, K20D, K100D Super, and K200D, so it will be a manual focus lens on everything else. The 17 - 70 will ship in July for under $600.

Nikon has released a new version of their unique Capture NX photo retouching software. Some of the new features in Capture NX 2 include:
  • Selection control points let you easily apply unsharp mask, noise reduction, D-Lighting on a selected part of the image
  • Auto retouch brush
  • Shadow/highlight adjustment
  • Simulatenous use of tools
  • Redesigned GUI (I'm glad to hear this)
